Smartphone OS Mozilla Secara Resmi Diluncurkan di Spanyol

Salah satu penyedia browser Internet terkemuka di dunia telah bergabung dengan bisnis smartphone dengan sistem operasi baru. Smartphone OS Mozilla secara resmidirilis di Spanyol.

Rincian pertama tentang sistem operasi ini muncul di Barcelona Mobile World Congress pada bulan Februari dan Mozilla baru saja merilis dua smartphone pertama yang dilengkapi dengan sistem operasi Firefox baru.

Kedua Smartphone itu, sebuah ZTE Open dan sebuah Alcatel One touch Fire, hanya tersedia di Spanyol untuk sementara waktu. Mozilla bermitra dengan Telefonica pada proyek ini, dengan tujuan untuk membuat serangkaian smartphone yang lebih terjangkau untuk masyarakat umum.

Telepon ini akan dijual seharga € 69 (69 euro) atau sekitar $ 90. Versi Pra-bayar juga datang dengan harga € 30 (30 euro) dengan menggunakan kredit. Keduan model ini akan dilengkapi dengan fitur standar Smartphone seperti panggilan telepon, pesan teks, email, peta, kamera, dan Firefox browsing web.

Setiap ponsel memiliki memori internal 512MB dan dilengkapi dengan slot kartu microSD untuk menambah ruang penyimpanan. Smartphone ini tidak memiliki fitur layar HD, tetapi dilengkapi dengan prosesor Qualcomm 1 GHz dan kartu grafis Ardeno 200.

Firefox OS adalah open source dan dikembangkan menggunakan HTML5, dimana Mozilla berharap akan menarik bagi pengembang web yang dapat dengan mudah menggunakan sistem untuk membuat aplikasi mereka sendiri.

Saat ini belum diketahui kapan OS smartphone Mozilla akan tersedia bagi konsumen AS (apalagi Indonesia ya ??). Untuk saat ini, Mozilla memasaran ponsel ini di pasar negara berkembang seperti Polandia, Spanyol, Kolombia, Venezuela dan Brasil, di mana pasar OS baru akan menjadi pilihan yang jauh lebih terjangkau daripada iPhone yang lebih mahal atau generasi terbaru perangkat bertenaga Android.

Eksekutif Mozilla mengakui bahwa akan sulit untuk OS Firefox untuk menemukan kesuksesan di pasar yang 90% didominasi oleh Android dan iOS, tetapi mereka yakin bahwa titik harga rendah dan fitur open-source akan membuatnya menjadi pilihan yang populer di masyarakat sebagai  alternatif untuk sistem operasi tradisional smartphone.
